Andrew MacLennan - Bagpipe Services

About Andrew

Andrew began to learn the practice chanter at the very young age of five years old. He gained all his tuition from Pipe Major Norman Gillies.

Once progressing onto the pipes Andrew joined the ranks of the Ullapool & District Junior Pipe Band, where Norman was a founding member and also Pipe Major.

Andrew was to return to this pipe band as an adult, both teaching and playing with the band. Andrew would also deputise for the Pipe Major when he wasn't available. Andrew remained in this position until 2006 when circumstances made it difficult to commit to being at the band every week.

Andrew remained a lifetime pupil of Norman Gillies, until Normans death in the spring of 2007.

As a youngster Andrew enjoyed a fair deal of competition success around the various Highland Games. It has been a number of years since Andrew has done much competing, but he is planning to compete around the games circuit this summer.

From the spring of 1998 until December 2003 Andrew worked part time in Cabarfeidh Bagpipe Supplies. From Jan 2004 until Sept 2008 Andrew worked as the manager of Cabarfeidh Bagpipes. During his time there Andrew was involved in the manufacture of pipe bags, drone reeds and practice chanter reeds.

Whilst working for Cabarfeidh, Andrew also taught pipes on a part time basis, both with individual lessons and group lessons for the Highland Council Traditional Music Classes.

Andrew now concentrates on teaching pipes

Andrew combines his teaching with playing at various functions such as Weddings and funerals.
